Patriot UCC Chapter: Report on Cleanup Exercises at the University of Cape Coast Hospital and Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly #nvday
On Saturday 21st of September 2013, marked the National Volunteer Day and also the Founder’s Day which was in celebration of the birth of the first president of Ghana(Dr. Kwame Nkrumah), a group of Eleven(11) students from Patriots Ghana-University of Cape Coast Chapter collaborated with Ghanathink Foundation to organise a cleanup exercise at the University of Cape Coast Hospital Children’s Ward and also at the Offices of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly where Patriots UCC also collaborated with the Zoomlion and the workers (of Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly) to do a cleanup exercise.
The group was led by Douglas Opoku Agyeman (President) and Godwin Acquah (Vice President). At the hospital children’s ward, some of the members mobbed the floor, cleaned the sinks, the louvres, and some weeded the hospital surroundings. After the exercise, we interviewed some of the mothers whose children were sick , talked to some of the kids at the ward ,prayed for all the kids and after donated some items to the kids. This exercise was undertaking by Patriots UCC because TEWU is on strike and we realised that there wasn’t anyone doing the cleaning at this place, since the health of these kids is a major priority to us and our future leaders of this country, we decided to embark on this cleanup exercise. The staff of the hospital congratulated the students and encouraged them and said they would be pleased to see us do this often at the clinic and also any other help that may come from the chapter to help develop the hospital.
From the hospital, the group continued with the cleanup exercise at the Cape Coast Metroplitan Assembly’s offices where we were welcomed by Mr. Nicholas Addo(Coordinating Director of Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly) ,Mr. Martey (Director- in -Charge of Waste Mangement) and Mr. Addo (P.R.O of the Metropolis) . Some of the student cleaned the computers at the offices, some mopped the floor, some removed cobwebs, some cleaned the louvres whilst others arranged all the files at the offices and sorted the old ones from the new ones. After the exercise the Coordinating Director(Mr. Addo) and the President of Patriots UCC ( Douglas Agyeman)were interviewed by the Public Relation Officer of the Cape Coast Metroplolis, where Douglas Agyeman briefed the workers on Patriots Ghana. The Coordinating Director encouraged the chapter for its good work and also said we should partner with the metropolitan assembly to help develop Cape Coast and Ghana as a whole. We use this opportunity to invite all the youth especially from the University of Cape Coast to come join Patriots Ghana team to help make a difference in our communities and Ghana as a whole.
